If you are proud of your culture, why not celebrate it? You do not have to celebrate what makes you unique only on holidays and religious events. There is a way to celebrate your culture every day! How? By including all the cultural elements of your ancestors into the interior design of your home. Your diversity is what makes you special, so use that as an inspiration for decorating your home.

However, if you lack inspiration, we are here to help you out. We will share some ideas that might bring your culture to life. Your only job will be to do some planning and look for some lucky finds in second-hand and antique shops. So, without further ado, here is how you can celebrate your culture through interior design.

Wall Art

While the rest of the people are doing home renovations for the era of new normality, why don't you do some renovations that will celebrate who you and your ancestors are and thus enrich your space? One of the best and the most direct ways to do that is by showing off wall art. Place different photos, pictures, and paintings on your walls throughout your home. Depending on your preferences, you can either group them together or scatter them around.

And, if you are not sure what kind of wall art your should display, you can, for example, place pictures of your hometown, of your ancestors, or even of your children! Moreover, you can do research on all the artists from your culture and print their work. Of course, if you have the money and want to support talent, you can buy wall art or different art pieces from those artists too.

Ancestry Furniture

Furniture pieces are another great way to celebrate your culture! But, unfortunately, furniture pieces with cultural elements are not easy to find. Nevertheless, do not let that stop you from going to second-hand shops and antique stores - every city has them. Moreover, look for furniture pieces of your linking online. We all know that the Internet is a place you can find anything, so why not find a good piece of ancestry furniture to celebrate your culture.

If you moved to a place far away from your home, you can even ask family members to ship you some pieces. with today's logistics, you can ship goods to different parts of the world quickly, safely, and without breaking the budget. So, explore your options and do not give up on the ancestry furniture because it seems impossible to locate. Once you do find it, it will enrich your home and make you feel closer to your culture.

Rugs and Tapestry Designs

It goes without saying colorful and patterned rugs are as popular today as they were centuries ago. And, besides being a great addition to your living space, a rug can also help you celebrate your culture through interior design. If you find an eye-catching rug for your living or dining room, it can elevate the entire space.

The same applies to tapestry! Tapestry is a kind of a rug, but for your walls. It is a great way for expressing your culture and yourself. But, just like with all cultural home elements, tapestry is not easy to find. The best place to look for it is in antique shops, or, just as previously mentioned, in the online shops, or even on Craigslist. Just remember to pet-proof your home if you decide to go for tapestry - dogs and cats are not a big fan of 'flying carpets'.

Decorative Pillows, Blankets, And Throws

If you think that textile pieces are the best pieces for showing off your culture, but finding just the right rug or tapestry is a mission impossible, or a mission too expensive, you can always go for decorative pillows, blankets, and throws. Acquiring them is easy and rather cheap. You can find these pieces even if relocating to a new country. How come? Trust us, all antique shops have 'bygone' decorative pillows, blankets, and throws.

And, speaking of moving, why not consider relocating all your family heirlooms with you? With a proper moving agency, you can move to a totally different culture without worrying about the safety of your belongings. That way, you can bring everything that you need, and most importantly, you can bring everything that reminds you of your culture.

But, if moving everything is not an option – buying new, small cultural pieces always is. The best thing about these pieces is that they can enrich your living space and emphasize your culture without you doing or spending much. You just need to find the proper pillowcases, or throws, and place them on a chair or a sofa. This way, your cultural piece can also be your comforting piece.

Religious Symbols

Most people will argue that the best (and the only) way to celebrate your culture through interior design is with religious symbols. After all, religion, history, and customs are all intertwined and together form a certain culture. So, whatever your religion is, you can easily find a way to show it off, that is, to express reverence for that particular belief.

Your choices are endless! You can choose religious symbols in a form of an art piece, tapestry, statue, figurine, etc. What is more, the places you can put your religious symbols are also endless - a painting or a photo depicting a religious event on the wall, an artifact found on a religious site placed on the shelves, a cross or a Buddha figurine as a centerpiece on a tabletop, etc.  Just make sure everything is arranged with taste and with respect.

As you have seen, there are many ways you can celebrate your culture through interior design and thus make your house/apartment feel like home. Of course, you can choose some of our ideas, or even better, come up with your own. Whatever you decide to go for be sure that your home will be unique, as of course, every culture and every family are unique too! Be prepared to do some research too in order to find the best 'cultural' pieces for your home. But, do not be afraid to experiment and add your personal touch to everything. That is the best way to always feel connected with your culture and ancestors.
