How to Repair Leaking Shower Mixer Tap



What do you do when you sower mixer starts to leak. Repairing the leak always looks more complicated than it really is. Remember that not all mixer showers are the same but the one thing that is always the same is the internal workings. Here is a step by step guide on how to repair the leak. 

What you will need:
  • Screwdriver
  • Needle nose pliers.
  • Cartridge puller
  • New mixer tap cartridge
  • Plumber's grease
1. Turn off the water the main water supply. Open a tap in a basin on a lower level of the house. to release the water pressure in the pipes. 
2. Remove the screw from the shower tap's handle. Pull the handle off the mixer tap.
3. Pull off the metal sleeve from the mixer tap and slide the metal washer off the cartridge stem. Use needle nose pliers to pull out the retaining clip or pin from the cartridge. 
4. Pull out the cartridge from the mixer tap using a pair of pliers or a cartridge puller tool. Coat the replacement cartridge's seals with plumber's grease and insert it into the mixer tap until it fits snugly. 
5. Reassemble the rest of the mixer tap in the reverse order you took it apart. Open the shut off valve and turn the mixer tap on to test for leaks. Remember to leave the basin tap open until all the air in the pipe have been released.
