All you need to have is some floor polishing equipment and follow the right procedures. Just keep in mind that different types of floors need different kinds of polishing and care.

Floor Polishing for Different Floors

Today we come across with different types of floors and those beautiful floors need to be kept in good condition. There are floors made of wood, marble, granite, stone, ceramic and many more.

Let’s take you through the multitude of flooring options that adds elements of awe and wonder in the idea of home furnishing

  • Wood floors- It is highly recommended to get the wooden floor polished in every couple of months based on the volume of traffic and quantum of weight it bears. There are particular floor polishing products solely meant for wooden floors and all one needs to do is to apply the polish on the floor to get that beautiful shine.

  • Marble, Stone, and Granite floors - One needs special floor polishing machines for floors made of marble, stone, and granite. The hard floors need sanding with the help of a stone grinder. The grinder or drill needs to be constantly wheeled through the surface of the floor to retrieve back that glossy shine.

  • Concrete floors- Concrete floors can be easily polished with a grinder equipped with 30 to 40grit metal diamond pads. One should use finer grits to get that mirror like finish on the concrete floor. Once those grinders are run across the floor, one gets a dazzling shine that outshines everything else in the room.

  • Ceramic Tiled Floor- For those floors lined with ceramic tiles, there are special ceramic tile polishing products.  All you need to do is to follow the right floor polishing procedures and products to get that shine back on your ceramic floor. Before you buff the floor apply the polish and gently rub the floor.

  • Laminated Floors- Although laminate floors aren't meant for floor polishing, one can do the needful with standard polishing products and vacuum regularly. It is a good idea to use a slightly damp mop and use it to administer the recommended polishing product on the laminated floors.

As mentioned before, one needs to choose the right floor polishing equipment and process.  Here are some essential points to keep in mind when choosing a floor polisher:

  • The speed of the machine floor polisher should be between 300 and 450 rpm. However, for those who need a mirror like finish on their floors, are required to use ultra-high-speed machines with 1000rpm to 1500rpm speeds.

  • The weight of the machine is another consideration. Typically, heavier the machines are better cleaning and polishing impact it delivers. Therefore, what works best for floor polishing is a slower but heavier machine.

  • The pads of the machine determine how much heat and abrasion the floor polishing equipment generates on a polish surface. Choose the pads carefully as there are different pads like black, green, blue, and black. Red buffer pads are perfect for high gloss finish while Black pads are more durable and aggressive. Green pads are used for heavy-duty wet scrubbing, and Blue pads are for general scrubbing.

Apart from the above, there are several floor polishing accessories that can help enhance the performance and the results. For example, you can get a vacuum attachment to pick up the dust and lower the risk of contamination.
