Tips and Tricks For Blocked Drains Cleaning

One very common problem in every household is blocked drains and deposited sediments in pipelines. Blocked drains lead to many problems such as unhygienic conditions in the bathrooms, kitchens and neighborhood. They also lead to waterlogging and a foul stench. Blocked drains lead to overflow of dirty water which if left untreated can lead to several health hazards and diseases. Moreover, unclean water and stench attract flies and other insects to your house and neighborhood. As a result, we must look for remedies for blocked drains cleaning.

Tips For Blocked Drains Cleaning:

  • The first and most effective way of blocked drains cleaning is using a bent wire hanger. All you must do is, take a wire hanger and bend one corner a bit. Next, you must use the hooked corner to either push down the dirt and grease or pull up hair particles and other dirty particles if any. It is advisable to pull up the obstructive particles rather than pushing them down further. Pushing down the hair and dirt particles can create more blockages.

  • You can use boiling water to push down the dirt and grease from the pipelines and drains. It is an effective yet budget-friendly way of blocked drains cleaning. You must slowly pour down the boiling water down your drain two to three times. Hot water is magical for cleaning grease and fat.

  • Another effective way of blocked drains cleaning is by hiring a professional plumber. A professional plumber knows his job properly and does the needful in cleaning the block and fixing the pipeline. Hiring a professional is also hassle-free and he does the pre and post-cleaning. Sometimes the stench from blocked drains is so bad that self-cleaning becomes impossible.

  • Another cheap yet effective means of cleaning a blocked drain is by using salt and baking soda. You just mix half cup salt and half cup baking soda and pour it down your pipeline or drainage system. Follow it up by pouring hot water down the drain. This mixture will melt down some of the hardest blockages.

  • Another mixture that can be effective for blocked drains cleaning is baking soda and vinegar. It works best for grease, fat and grime. You can let it sit for a couple of hours or overnight for best results. Next pour down a sufficient amount of hot water down your drain for perfect cleansing.

  • There are many caustic drain cleaners available in the market which can be used for blocked drains cleaning. They have dirt dissolving capabilities which help in unclogging clogged drains and pipelines. They are effective in dissolving fat, grease, food and hair particles. But you should be cautious while using these chemicals because they are acidic and can prove harmful if inhaled. You should also keep them out of the reach of children as they can be corrosive and can burn the skin if not handled properly.

  • A hydro jet is also very effective in cleaning blocked drains and pipelines. A hydro jet will clear all kind of blockages except solid wastes. Moreover, hydro jetting is a bit expensive as you require professional supervision.

There is a very common saying that prevention is better than cure. Therefore, you need to follow some preventive measures before using the kitchen sink or the bathroom. The sinks and bathroom drainage pipes should be fitted with proper sieves. You should also prevent your hair from getting washed down drainage pipes. Moreover, you can use a dustbin to dispose of sanitary napkins and toilet papers instead of disposing of them in the commodes. These simple measures will prevent blocked drains. The above article will prove helpful in solving problems of drain blockage.
