How to pick the right flooring for your bedroom.

The bedroom is the one room in the house that is primarily for you and your family's use and is seldom seen by guests. This means that the right option for flooring in the bedroom should be based purely on personal preferences and with a look towards comfort rather than stark aesthetics. These are the most popular flooring options that are used in the bedroom- each comes with their own benefits and drawbacks.

1. Wood floors.

One of the most popular materials for bedroom flooring. Wood will make rooms appear cosier and give it a warm friendly look. There are three major options in wood flooring- strip, plank and parquet. Strip flooring will make a room appear bigger than it is, which makes it a great options for smaller rooms. Plank creates a more casual look and parquet is the most expensive and formal. Wood flooring is easy to clean and hardwood floors will retain their color over time. They are also great for people with allergies as they do not hold onto allergens.  However, wood flooring can be expensive and time consuming to install. It can also be slippery, especially if socks are worn in the house.

2. Carpet.

Carpet is available in a wide variety of colours and textures and can fit almost any aesthetic you are trying to fit it into. It is also warm to the feet and this is great when you wake up in a cold air conditioned room.  There are also many varieties of cheap carpeting available which makes it cost effective. However, carpets retain allergens, can be hard to clean and their colours and textures fade over time, meaning they may need to be replaced often.

3. Ceramic tile and stone.

There are a lot of options in the market like marble, clay and other stones. While these are not commonly used in bedrooms, some aesthetics can be suited to stone floors like a Spanish style bedroom with patterned tiles. Marble can also be used in the bedroom. While stone floors can make the bedroom look opulent and grand, they are also expensive in some cases. Some stones also absorb stains which can be hard to get out. There is also risk of them being slippery, so care should be observed when walking on them.

4. Rubber flooring.

Rubber flooring is extremely durable and perfect for rooms with high traffic and where there is risk of spillage like in kid's bedrooms. Rubber flooring is also easy to clean and maintain which makes it a very cost effective option. Furthermore, there is little risk of slipping as it offers great grip. However, it is hard to make rubber flooring look elegant and grand, so it may not score high points in an aesthetic sense.

There are several more options available like bamboo flooring, laminate flooring and using smaller area rugs. Talking to a professional can really help sort out the options and choose the right kind of flooring for your bedroom.
