How to Design a Kids Bedroom

As children grow, their tastes can change from day to day. Therefore, you will want to design a bedroom for your child that doesn't need to change every time your child becomes excited about the next new thing. Here are 4 tips on how to design a bedroom that will grow with your child.

1. Invest in Traditional Furniture

It can be tempting to want to select furniture items that are cute because your child is small. However, as your child grows it is likely that he or she won't want such items in his or her room. Therefore, you should invest in furniture that is traditional. Furniture that is traditional rather than specifically designed for a child can stay in the bedroom even when your child is older. Avoid buying child-size furniture if you don't want to have to replace it later on.

2. Choose Furniture That Can Serve Multiple Purposes

As your child grows from being an infant, start thinking about how you can re-envision old furniture to serve a new purpose. This means that you could apply new upholstery or use the old area for storage. You can also modify old items by changing them slightly, such as by applying a new shade to a lamp that replacing the baby style one that you had previously.

3. Pick Classic Colours

By selecting classic, neutral colours for the room, you can avoid having to repaint the room later on when your child is older. In addition, neutral colours will prevent you from selecting expensive cute furniture that is unlikely to match your neutral colour decor. Picking classic colours will also mean that you won’t have trouble finding elements to match the room’s colour palette as your child grows.

4. Create the Look for the Child's Room With Accessories

Instead of purchasing furniture in order to create the look of a child's room, use accessories to create this look instead. This will save you a lot of money because items such as rugs, throw pillows and bedding are much cheaper to replace when they become outdated than furniture items.
