How to Design a Bachelor Apartment

There’s a misconception about bachelor apartments that’s not really flattering. It’s usually seen as a small, messy and a bit embarrassing piece of real estate. However, this doesn’t need to be the case. A bachelor pad can be well maintained and stylish.

It’s true that these apartments are usually small and their design needs to reflect that fact, but that can be done without jeopardizing its style and aesthetic. At the same time, bachelor apartments could also be playful and convey that they are owned by a young and unattached person.

Two areas

A small apartment usually has one major problem – it’s difficult to separate it into rooms and areas. That changes how the apartment is used and the place appears to tie its owner down. This is especially difficult for those who work from home.

It’s, therefore, best to separate the apartment into two main areas – one for sleeping and the other for living. The two should not only be separated by a barrier but also in terms of design and aesthetic and even the color palette used in each.

Cozy feel

It’s also possible to take advantage of the size of the apartment and to make it feel cozy and comfortable. This starts with hiring Sydney commercial carpentry experts and making sure that the apartment is warm, well insulated and comfy. It’s also done by choosing the furniture with this goal in mind.

A lot of this ambiance is also creating by making sure the lighting in the apartment fits its size. That’s mostly accomplished by having accent lights around the room, strategically placed depending on how you plan to spend time in the apartment.

Entertainment

A TV often takes too much space in the room and that’s even more noticeable in a small apartment. That’s not a good look and it often affects how you spend your time because it takes the attention away from your guests and company.

It can be avoided or at least mitigated by trying to hide the TV and fit it into your furniture. It’s also possible to hang the TV on the wall and thus make it more prominent but give it less space. The key, however, is for the TV not to be in the central place within the room.

Nooks and crannies

Even the smallest of apartments often have underused spaces in corners and nooks. That’s because these smaller corners appear to be unusable, but that’s not true if you put your mind to it. Such spaces could become a reading corner or a meditation space, but it’s not necessary to give them a purpose.

It’s sometimes enough just to decorate every corner with the same attention and with the same aesthetic in mind. If it’s done right, it won’t make the apartment appear crowded but used and lived in in the best possible sense of the word.

Use the walls

If you don’t have enough space, every additional inch of it counts. When it comes to bachelor apartments, it’s usually the walls that could be used in a more productive way. This isn’t just about hanging your artwork and adding wall lights.

One of the things you could do is use the walls to store and hang items that you otherwise wouldn’t have the place to put. If the apartment doesn’t belong to you, these storage units need to be made so that they can be dismantled.

A bachelor apartment can be designed to be both comfortable and cozy. In order to do it, you need to design it around its size and downsides.
