Tips for Designing a Kid-Friendly Home

If you have children or a new baby at home, designing your home to help them thrive and stay safe is likely one of your top priorities. Here are 6 tips for designing your home to be both baby and kid-friendly.

1. Opt for Bright Colours

Babies feel best when they are able to look at brightly coloured walls and fabrics. In addition, you should opt for a fun, brightly coloured natural scene for the walls of the kid's room in order to keep your little one happy if he or she is ever alone in the room.

2. Select Some New Favourites for Toys

If you want to make the kids happy, you should select some new toys for them. For small children, select toys that don't contain small or detachable parts, as they can be easily swallowed. Soft toys are best for a baby.

3. Set Up a Space for Play

While kids love toys, they don't often have a place to enjoy them. Make sure that there is a dedicated space for play so that the kids can enjoy themselves.

4. Safety First

When you are designing a home for children, safety should always come first. Make sure to install safety gates on stairs. In addition, you should also do things such as installing corner guards for the furniture and covering electrical outlets.

5. Soft Flooring Is Essential

Floors can be very hard and can cause injuries to children while they are playing. To avoid potential injures, always make sure to install soft-flooring in any room when children will be playing or sleeping. Soft flooring that is designed for children can help to eliminate the risk of injury that comes along with having children in the home.

6. Stabilise Heavy Furniture

While this step might get overlooked, it is important to make sure that heavy furniture has been stabilised in the home. You can do this by making sure that heavy pieces are firmly anchored to the walls so that the won't topple over onto a baby. The furniture in the baby's room should also be well stabilised.
