Tips and Tricks on Decorating Your Home This Christmas

Christmas is probably one of the most joyful times of the year and people all over the world look forward to spending time with their friends and family, exchanging gifts, eating gingerbread cookies, and drinking hot cocoa. When you wish for nothing else but to feel snug and warm, a beautifully decorated home will help you get there. We bring you a few simple tips and tricks that will help you turn your lounge into a real Christmas miracle.

Make it warm

The best way to make everyone feel warm and welcome in your lounge is by filling it with warm and snuggly materials. Bring in faux fur covers, fuzzy blankets, and pillowcases made of old sweaters. You can also use your old sweaters to make mug warmers – not only will this make it easier to hold that cup of hot tea or a cocoa, but you will be able to warm up your frozen fingers too. However, no matter how cold you feel and how much you want to just curl up under blankets, don’t forget to air the room at least once a day – you will get sick more easily in a stuffy room.

Christmas stockings

Is it even Christmas time if you don’t have those lovely stockings hanging over your fireplace? Of course, if you have kids or if you’ll have kids as guests, huge stockings with their names written on them are a must. But even if you’ll be spending the holidays with a group of adults, stockings are always a nice touch. They don’t have to be classic red-and-white, but instead you can use them to express what each of your family members loves. Plaid, polka dots, stripes, pom-poms, glitter, bows, sequins and buttons can all be used to turn your boring old stockings into little works of art.

Unconventional Christmas tree

Christmas trees are a must just like stockings, and the best part is that they can be changed, improved, glammed up, or “dressed-down” so that they fit into your home better. If you have pets, you know how difficult it is to keep your cats and dogs away from all the shiny decorations, which is why people opt to have unconventional Christmas trees instead: small trees, trees made of string, cardboard, PVC pipes, or books. Not only are these adorable, but they also allow you to save money on buying an actual tree. You even manage to save space too, which is great if you live in a small apartment.

Make garlands

Garlands are also a great choice, because they allow you to turn any room into a Christmas heaven in a blink of an eye. You can hang them in living rooms, kitchens, hallways, guest rooms, even bathrooms. Garlands hanging above the fireplace are particularly popular, and you can make your own using pine branches and pine cones. If you add small ornaments and fairy lights, you’ll get a lovely decoration you can use next year as well. Those who don’t have a fireplace can use garlands to decorate their shelves, TVs, mirrors, and doors.

Christmas wreaths

There is no better way to show to the world how excited you and your family are about Christmas than to hanging a lovely wreath on your front door or in your windows. Wreaths don’t have to be elaborate or huge to do the trick, you can make one using only wire hanger, a bit of ribbon and leftover Christmas ornaments. You can hang a big wreath on your front door and a couple of small ones in your living room and kitchen windows. Add a few pine cones, use silver and gold spray paint, and add a card that says “Merry Christmas” and you’re good to go.

Floor to ceiling

If you really want to make it special this year, you should pay special attention to details. Start from the floors and have lovely Christmas-themed rugs in front of your couch. Not only will they keep your feet warm, but if you have professional flooring installation from Sydney done too, you can be sure your floors and floor coverings are of the best quality. Decorate your windows with paper snowflakes dipped in glitter and clear glass ornaments which will catch the light and send rainbows all over the room. This way, your guests will be able to enjoy the atmosphere wherever they look.

Creating the perfect holiday atmosphere is not difficult if you actually feel the Christmas spirit and look forward to it. Don’t push things too hard, if you focus on decorating too much you might start paying less attention to your family, friends, and pets. This is the most joyful time of the year, and the best way to feel the joy is by sharing it with those you love.
